Let’s start off with what is a Secondary VA claim?
You can file a secondary disability claim to get more benefits for a new disability linked to a service-connected disability you already have.
If you have a disability that is caused or aggravated by a current military service-connected disability, you should file for compensation as a secondary claim for that disability.
It doesn’t matter if you develop a new condition tomorrow. If you have a service-connected disability that causes or aggravates the original condition you are diagnosed with, you can get it connected as a secondary service connection VA claim.
How Do You File A Claim For A Secondary Service Connection?
Filing a claim for secondary service connection involves the same process as filing any claim for service connection.
You will only need to demonstrate two things to VA to be granted service connection for a secondary condition:
1. A diagnosis for your secondary condition
2. Medical records showing the link between your service-connected condition and secondary condition. This is called a Nexus letter.
