So how does a veteran go about proving they were in combat service? The easiest way to prove your status as a combat veteran is by providing a copy of your DD-214. Once you do this, you will be eligible for combat veteran benefits.

A veteran who is trying to prove that they were in combat, usually just needs to provide a statement that says the veteran suffered a disease, injury, or stressor event during combat. The VA must consider the veteran’s statement when determining whether the veteran engaged in combat. This is my DD-214. Yours will be different and if you don’t know whether or not you are a combat veteran you will want to see what is written down in the comments section on number 18.
At the bottom of my DD-214, it shows that I got a general discharge under honorable conditions which makes me an air force combat veteran.
