100% Permanent and Total Disability: What is it?

Those with a permanent and total disability, or P&T, have disabilities that are total (rated 100 percent disabled by VA) and permanent (with no or very little chance of improvement).

A veteran can have a permanent disability that is temporary or a permanent disability of less than 100 percent. Both permanent and total disabilities can result in reduced ratings.

VA’s Schedule of Rating Disabilities is used to rate veterans disabilities. Each level of disability is determined by how much it impacts your ability to function in life and at work. In order to receive a 100 percent rating, you must have a totally disabling disability.
