Is it possible for the Department of Veterans Affairs to reduce your VA disability rating? The concept of a protected VA disability rating implies that the VA will not actively try to lower our ratings. We don’t expect the VA to send us a rating reduction letter one year after we receive our decision letter, so you need to understand the meaning of protected.
It is important to familiarize yourself with the VA Five Year Rule, VA Ten Year Rule, VA Twenty Year Rule, VA 55 Year Rule and the VA Fraud Rule so you are not caught with your pants down.
00:00 Introduction to Protected VA Disability Ratings

4:26 VA Ten Year Rule
5:04 VA Twenty Year Rule
6:19 VA 55 Year Rule
Upon receiving a service-connected disability rating, the VA reserves the right to reexamine you to determine if your disability is still present and warrants the original rating.
Based on its reexamination, the VA can increase, reduce, or terminate your disability compensation. There is no guarantee that every veteran’s disability rating will be reexamined, nor that every rating will change.
