LoginWhat is a Deferred Decision in a VA Disability Claim?
Once the VA has considered the veteran’s claim, a rating decision will be issued. A rating decision informs the veteran whether their claim was granted or denied. Moreover, the rating decision will tell the veteran how the VA arrived at its decision. It is possible that a veteran might receive a rating decision that says “deferred.” A deferred rating decision is issued when the claim is underdeveloped (not enough evidence) or incomplete.
There are a few reasons why your VA claim may have been deferred. The most common reason is that the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) needs more information from you in order to process your VA disability claim. This could include additional medical records or evidence to support your claim.
Another reason your VA disability claim may have been deferred is if it is incomplete. In order to avoid delays in processing, be sure to include all required information and documentation when you submit your claim.
If your claim was deferred due to missing information or evidence, the VBA will send you a letter explaining what is needed in order for your claim to be processed. Once you have gathered the required information or evidence, you can resubmit your claim for review.
