Why Does My VA Appeal Take So Long?

The Board of Veterans’ Appeals (BVA) is currently facing a massive backlog of VA claim appeals, and the docket date has essentially stagnated for a year and a half. This leaves many disabled veterans without access to rightfully-owed benefits.

One of the main reasons for the delay is that the BVA is understaffed and doesn’t have enough judges to hear all of the cases. In addition, the VA’s claims processing system is outdated and inefficient, which makes it difficult to gather all of the necessary evidence for an appeal.
