VA Special Monthly Compensation is a higher level of benefits paid to Veterans who are disabled due to the loss or loss of use of certain extremities, or who have certain medical conditions. The amount of VA Special Monthly Compensation you receive each month is based on the severity of your disability or condition.

For example, a Veteran who is blind in both eyes and has lost both legs below the knee would receive the highest level of SMC, which is currently $3,146.04 per month.
