LoginHow to Prove Nexus for Presumptive Service Connection
If you have a disease or condition that is considered presumptive service connected, you do not need to establish a nexus or link between that disease or condition and active duty service. It is automatically considered to be caused by service. It is automatically considered to be caused by your active duty service and the Veterans Benefits Administration is required by law to grant service connection.
There are, however, some conditions that are not considered presumptive. These include hearing loss, tinnitus, and any disease or condition that is the result of your own willful misconduct. If you have one of these conditions, you will need to prove nexus in order to get service connected.
Nexus can be proven in a number of ways. The most common is through medical records or statements from doctors linking the condition to service. This can be difficult to do if you don’t have detailed records or if your doctor is unwilling to provide a statement.
