What is the difference between direct service connection and secondary service connection?
Direct Service Connection means that Veterans have an illness, injury, or disability that has been proven as directly caused by their active military service. This may include medical evidence of a pre-existing condition being aggravated during active duty due to specific circumstances. Secondary Service Connection is when Veterans have an illness, injury, or disability that was not caused directly by their active military service but may still be connected to it in some way – such as through environmental exposures during their time in the military or even particular activities they participated in while serving.
