VA Disability Benefits for Respiratory Conditions
What’s not surprising is that VA doesn’t like to rate the two conditions separately and they will most likely combine them into one VA disability rating. It’s important to understand the VA ratings process to make sure you are getting the benefits you deserve.

38 CFR 4.96(a) prohibits the assignment of separate evaluations for co-existing respiratory conditions rated under 38 CFR 4.97, diagnostic codes 6600 through 6817 and 6822 through 6847.
Asthma is DC 6602 and sleep apnea is 6847. So, if approved for both asthma and sleep apnea, you will get the greater percentage only. EXAMPLE:
EXAMPLE: If you have a 30% rating for Asthma and you won 50% for Sleep Apnea, the Asthma would go to 0% and you’d just get the 50% for Sleep Apnea.
