LoginThe Sleep Deprived Veteran’s Guide to Getting a VA Disability Rating for Insomnia
Insomnia is a common problem for veterans, and the VA recognizes it as an eligible condition for a disability rating. To be approved for a VA disability rating for insomnia, you’ll need to prove that your sleep disorder has been caused or aggravated by your military service. This can be done through medical records and other evidence of a nexus between your time in the service and your current sleep issues.
Your doctor can help you with this process by providing an official diagnosis of insomnia as well as documenting any treatments you’ve received. If your sleep disturbance is severe enough, then you may even qualify for 100% disability from the VA.
When applying for a VA disability rating, make sure to include all relevant documents related to your insomnia, such as medical records, sleep studies, medication lists, and any other evidence that can help the VA to understand your condition. If possible, you should also include testimonies from friends or family members who have witnessed your struggles with insomnia.
